The Mysterious Mind
I often compare our mind to the “hall of mysteries” in the Harry Potter book. If we really look into it, it is no different…our mind unveils a new mystery every time we pay close attention to it. The capacity of our mind to change, adapt, improve, deteriorate as per our requirements is amazing! A healthy mind just seems to rise to every challenge you throw at it…perhaps that is why we say, “A beautiful life begins with a beautiful mind!”
It all begins and ends in the mind. I remember the time in kindergarten, when someone would say something nasty, we would retaliate by saying, “Jo kehta hai wo hi hota hai…” this got refined into, “I am not what you think I am, you are what you think I am…”.
Over the course of time I met many people who lived up to this credo. There were teachers who only saw the good in every student, not withstanding their academic status or behavior in class. There were others who called such teachers clueless and losers. Then there were those who focused only on the negatives and loved critiquing; the “I could’nt care less” types; the problem oriented; the solution oriented; the clear thinkers…and so many others.
The difference being only in the mind! Put the same situation in front of ten people, all will react differently. Further proof of how selective our mind is in processing information, how it views things from the perspective it is trained in. Yes, I did say “Trained”! Because that’s the good news! Our mind can be trained into positive behaviors. Most of us go through life following the diktats of our mind whereas it should be the other way round…the mind should follow what YOU dictate to it.
If, in your mind, you believe what you have always believed then you will act as you have always acted and you will get what you always get… If you want different results in your life, your work, your relationships, all you have to do is change your mind! It really is that simple! Like I said earlier, it all begins and ends in the MIND.
